I live in a big city (Seattle) and find the FM band to be pretty crowded. Sometimes it takes multiple times to find a suitable space on the dial. My advice is to pull over while finding the right space, it can be quite distracting to use while I am driving. BUT on the other hand.when I find the right spot, it works quite well as long as I stay in the zone.where ever I can find it.
It has a great sleek look to it and a wonderful docking section so that your iPod can sit up in your car while you are driving. I live in the Northern Virginia area and I do not know if that plays a big part in being able to get a clear station, but the inability to listen to good quality sound is enough for me to return this product. Everything about installing this product was easy. Sometimes the iPod player will play with some static which is just as annoying as playing with a lot of static. It came with different cradles to hold different size iPods. It plugged into the car easily and tuned to different stations with a single push of a button. Bought this product to listen to my iPod nano and I am very disappointed in its quality in playing music.Pros:Look: This product looks great and is one of the reasons why I was attracted to it. It is almost as if I am a human antenna.
The look and accessibility of this product was important to me, but not nearly as important as listening to clear sounding music. Sometimes I have to drive while touching the iPod player with my right hand to keep a clear sound. I rated this product a 2 because it is absolutely irritating to keep touching, changing the stations, and moving the player while I am listening to Musiq Soulchild. It charges while you are playing music and when you have the iPod sitting on the iPod player.Cons:The only thing I did not like about this product is the static that I received when playing my iPod through different stations. This makes the product more accessible and prevents you from less distraction while driving.Installation: Installation was extremely easy. Most of the time I cannot hear anything but loud static.
I've even notices clearer FM stations that I listen to once I plugged it in.Charging: Charging was phenomenal and I find myself with a full battery life every time I use it outside of my car. The iPod would play clear, then you hear static, plays clear, then you hear static and so on. Very few times am I able to listen to clear music without static interference or having to touch the player. I do not recommend this product unless you want to be absorbed in getting a clear station and sound while you are driving.
I live in a medium sized city so there are a few open channels but not many. Best transmitter yet. It does have it's glitches though, the most annoying is that it occasionally just shuts off. Totally clear transmission, even when the channel isn't totally clear. First thing I noticed was the clearscan function almost always picked a frequency that didn't work at all. So I tried a Belkin Tunecast which was terrible, I had to change channels 3-4 times per song just to hear the whole thing.
But even after that disappointment I decided to try the Tunebase after reading some reviews. This unit worked better than the Tunecast but still wasn't great. I've gone through I think 4 different fm transmitters. The tunebase went back where it came from and I went and picked up another iwave for my girlfriend. For under $20 it came with the transmitter and a bunch of accessories so I figured it was worth a shot. I drive all over with that thing and never have to change the channel. I did see that there is a similar iwave on amazon that looks slightly different so maybe they fixed the glitch.
The final nail in the coffin was the consistent need to find a clear frequency, at first it wasn't too bad but once I hit static it was hard to find a good channel to use.A couple of days later I found a transmitter in the discount bin at Ross Dress for Less. First I bought a Griffin Itrip which worked good but I accidently broke it so I bought another and for whatever reason that one didn't work real well. But that happens only once in a while so I can deal with it. Next I noticed static in high notes, not a big deal but for the price I had hoped for better performance. It's called an iwave and it's the type that plugs into the headphone jack. Anyway, what can you expect from something out of the bo-bo bin. I may have to try it.
Needless to say, I was wrong. The only reason I still own this product is because I foolishly lost the receipt. My old transmitter didn't support my new iPod, so I purchased the Belkin, thinking the ClearScan technology would be useful. The transmitter is weak and I rarely get a clear signal. The ClearScan button often tells me to tune to a frequency that is already taken by an FM station with a strong signal. If you need an iPod transmitter, I recommend you look elsewhere.
This was a birthday gift. This one is not as stable. My older son has an older model that is a riggid plastic model. That model is not affected much by bumps and road imperfections. The sound and operation is great. It will cut out with bumps.
